Affectionately called the ‘Venice of the East’, Alleppey is at the heart of a wide network of island canals, large expanse of backwaters with green paddy fields on either side and isolated islands with a rich haul of rare species of birds in its sanctuaries. Alleppey is the venue of the world renowned Nehru Trophy Boat race, as well as the equally famous Pulinkunnu Boat race and Payipad Jalolsavam. It is also the centre of coir industry and undoubtedly the most preferred ‘must see’ destination in Kerala.
Lake Palace Resort is an ideal spot to enjoy a long relaxing break or to stay for a day or two at the start of a journey through the backwaters. It has been extremely well constructed and its floating swimming pool is an engineering masterpiece. It has a man made lagoon set back from the edges of Vembanad Lake. Between the lagoon and the lake you will find the Lake View Cottages which enjoy stunning views over water in both directions. The Kerala cottages are luxurious but with plenty of character and have patios that overlook the tranquil lagoon. The individual Water Villas on stilts are like a piece of the Maldives in Kerala but at a fraction of the price. An ice cold Kingfisher beer on the patio at dusk at the sun goes down is a delight.
With plenty to see and do, including visits to Allepey and daily houseboat trips to the backwaters, this resort is sure to enjoy success as tourism in Kerala grows. Superb quality at reasonable prices.
