Our Opinion
Spice Village is part of the CGH Earth group of eco-hotels and in keeping with the brand, the quality and service are unparalelled. With its thatched cottages and incredible surroundings, no visit to this part of the Western Ghats will be complete without a stay at Spice Village. The most expensive hotel in the area but still cheaper than equivalents in the Maldives or Mauritius. With its water safaris, forest treks and cooking demonstrations you wont find better in the Kumily area.

Summary
Spice Village is in Kumily, a small settlement 3 kilometres from Thekkady, the main entrance to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The resort consists of 52 cottages set in eight acres of forest. The design of each cottage was inspired by Oorali and Mannanlocal tribesmen who still carry on their age old practices in perfect harmony with nature.

The necessary creature comforts have been added to combine luxury with authenticity. The rooms are spacious and furnished with simple sophistication. A verandah runs around each cottage which is set in its own land. At the centre of the resort is a fine swimming pool surrounded by tropical trees and lawns.

Spice Village offers something for everyone and is highly recommended as a destination for an extended stay to perhaps enjoy some ayurvedic treatments, or for shorter stays that form part of a hectic Kerala schedule that includes the beach, backwaters and mountains.
